Eibhlín Ní Chongháile/ Helen Conneely, is an Irish based sculptress and feminine maker of Irish bog oak forms – who will share her bogwood carving knowledge with you via this Digital Class. Eibhlín/Helen is the only sculptress and feminine maker in Ireland who shares her wood carving expertise. What a privilege to learn from her.
This is a process-oriented digital class suited toward complete beginners. There is no previous experience of any sort required in order to aptly create your ancient bog oak talisman – whether – a wearable piece of artful jewellery, a wish-stone or a mini sculpture. Through visual demonstration and verbal tutoring you will learn about the essential tools in your home kit, including techniques for hand-carving and finishing your piece of bog oak. The class consists of step-by-step instructions, tool tips and tuition by demonstration. Learning is by practicing which can be completely in your own time at your own speed. The 40 minute pre-recorded class emphasises the basics of how to carve, smoothen and finish this extremely dense ancient wood into your desired vision. The digital class is designed not only to introduce students to the basic skills and techniques involved in carving a piece of 5600 year old bog wood, but always retaining the authenticity of the piece.
How does it work?
You can follow the class at your own pace from the comfort of your home – Right after checkout, a link will be sent with instructions on how to gain access to the class via the Teachable Platform. Your home kit containing everything you need – will be dispatched to your given address, and you will be able to check the delivery status online. This will contain all the supplies you need to complete your piece, as well as your actual bog oak pieces – no additional tools will be needed. Once you have received your home kit in the post you are ready to begin!

What if I need some extra help?
You will also be added to a Whatsapp group where you can interact with the other students taking the same course and check in directly with Eibhlín/Helen to share whether it is to share and show off your pieces or to get answers to any queries you may have. You are welcome in this group, we hope it brings you connections, inspirations and guidance.
Can you rewatch the digital class, does it expire?
The digital class does not expire and you will have lifetime access to Eibhlín/Helen’s instruction and tutoring. You can revisit the instructions at any time. You can also contact Helen to purchase more bog oak wood if you are feeling inspired to do further projects. In addition you will have Eibhlín/Helen’s support via the Whatsapp group. Please specify a relevant contact number at checkout in order to be added to the support group.
Is the digital class live or pre-recorded?
The class is delivered pre-recorded so you can watch it in your own time, you won’t miss anything! It’s been recorded from an actual live in person class – so you receive something unmistakably authentic. Every once in a while Eibhlín/Helen will put up extra material on the teachable platform and show you additional tips and tricks. Any upgrades are completely free of charge.

Create a Talisman with Eibhlín a knowing, noetic, and truly mythical object – that is believed to have protection against ill will, bestowing the wearer with intuition and a sense of re-connection to this earth. Experience the bog wood in its fullness – observe its native ground, then meet the bog wood in its original found state, and sense it at the various drying stages [ it takes 2 years to dry ready for carving ]. You will receive a soft case made of tweed in which you can wrap your talisman for its journey – accompanied by a booklet telling of the lores of the bog lands.

Listening to her [ the bogland ] will remind you of the similarities between all beings, and of our need to exhibit compassion especially in regards to our responsibility as custodians of this land. She will gently whisper to you of her origins and encourage you to keep sacred rituals – honouring your connection with the cycles of nature. You will begin to feel her power.
